IMPORTANT UPDATES RE: FLOODING
As of 4pm, Wednesday 3rd January
We hope everyone has enjoyed their Tuesday.
As expected below, the weather has improved today and the rivers are subsiding well below the bridges and roads are opening up again for travel, just in time for our arrivals tomorrow. There are some roads that are problematic today (but may resolve tomorrow) so we thought we'd flag them so that you can have a smoother trip.
Some travellers heading down discovered that today that Beaudesert-Beenleigh Rd, it is blocked off at -27.7914122, 153.1794095. Also Kyogle Rd from Gold Coast airport and Murwillumbah to Sine Cera is open but caution is required in some sections due to road damage. There is one exception: to avoid the washed out Homeleigh Bridge a few kms before Kyogle, there is a turnoff to the right after Cawongla into Sargents Rd that becomes Homeleigh Rd. This provides a loop around the missing bridge. The loop will add probably 20 mins to the trip. Note that it is typically a good dirt road most of the way, bitumen at the end. Ignore a sign towards the end of the road that says Road Closed. You can travel comfortably at 50-60 km/hr. The road prior to the loop road, from Murwillumbah to Cawongla is in good condition, no potholes, no debris. Ignore the detour sign at Cawongla that wants to send you to Lismore - just go straight ahead and see Sargents Rd sign on the right at the brow of a hill a bit further on.
For Brisbane-based people, the quickest route is via Beaudesert and then turn off before Rathdowney to join Running Creek Rd and then across the border to Sine Cera (which is on Google maps). Although there are no hazards marked on this route there are low lying bridges that may be flooded so, please check https://qldtraffic.qld.gov.au/ - and if in any doubt, travel via Mt Lindsay Highway (longer) and turn left at Wiangaree and follow Google map guidance to Sine Cera.
If you have any difficulties along the way, give Evan a call on 0439926898 and we'll see what we can do to help. There are challenges with reception so if you can't get through, try sending an email too. WhatsApp should also work.

On most other sources it shows Thursday as nice and Friday as light showers with sunshine.
